-STORY
He had been enjoying chatting with smile, but once camera started he became less chatty. He responds this interview slowly and precisely looking for the exact words. "SUPER DARTS is my dream stage. The competitions among that top notch players were only available in DVD."
As a working athlete
Susumu Kasuya is a pro player with a full time job at a ship yard. It is not easy to stay a professional darts player while working full time during the day. “Well. The hard part is …” He continued after pausing a while. “I have to take a day off from my day time job for some tournaments that lasts couple of days. Honestly speaking it was not that easy to say “I will take a day off for darts.” However, things changed for him when a sport paper had the article on the Pro tour JAPAN where he won. “People at work were reading the article and they began to understand my situation. When I request a day off for tournaments, the company approves it right away. I am very thankful for their understanding.” He gets financial and psychological security from his job. It can help him go for more challenges. "I am probably psychologically tougher than regular people."
His calm match development and stable records may reflect his mental strength.
Because it’s fun.
Time he can practice is very limited because of his full time job. I asked what motivate him to continue playing darts regardless of obstacles. Kasuya's response was very simple.
“Because Darts is fun after all.” He can’t think about anything else. So he says he will make more efforts.
“I want to see how strong the world’s leading players are and how far I can go at SUPER DARTS. I want to show all working darts players that great records can be achieved even working a regular job."
Kasuya is aiming to be the world’s best while enjoying darts. We must see the achievement of the working athlete.
